FAU Presents Lecture: Environmental Change and International Security
BOCA RATON (January 14, 2004) - Florida Atlantic University's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters presents "Environmental Change and International Security," a free public lecture by Geoffrey D. Dabelko, director of the Environmental Change and Security Project (ECSP) at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. The lecture will take place Thursday, January 22 at 7 p.m. in General Classroom North, Room 101 of FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.
The lecture will examine the connections between environmental conditions and security concerns. These linkages range from resource scarcity contributing to tension and political instability, to the role that the military and intelligence communities play in environmental and humanitarian missions.
Dabelko is one of the nation's leading environmentalists and a recognized expert on international environmental issues. He is an investigator on ECSP's "Navigating Peace: Forging New Water Partnerships Initiative" and on the "Environment, Development and Sustainable Peace Initiative," an international effort to bridge the gap between Northern and Southern policy perspectives.
The lecture is presented by FAU's Ph.D. in Comparative Studies and FAU's Lifelong Learning Society. For further information, please call 561-297-0035.
