FAU Receives Gift from Hellenic Society Paideia
BOCA RATON, FL (December 3, 2003) - Florida Atlantic University's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will receive a pledge from the Hellenic Society Paideia of $75,000 over three years to support a new professor in Classical Studies in the Department of Languages and Linguistics. The first installment of the pledge was made this year.
"With the crucial support of the Hellenic Society Paideia, we have been able to develop a vibrant program in Greek and Classical Studies and respond to growing student interest in these areas," said William A. Covino, dean of FAU's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters.
Konstantinos P. Nikoloutsos started as the new professor of Classical Studies this fall. Currently, he is teaching ancient and modern Greek, as well as classical myth. In addition to his teachings, Nikoloutsos will work with the Hellenic Society Paideia to organize activities that will enhance the awareness of FAU students about the culture of modern and classical Greece.
Nikoloutsos holds a B.A. in Classical Studies from the University of Thessalonica in Greece, a M.S. from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and is completing his Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. His research interests cover areas such as Roman love poetry and gender, sexuality and the body in classical antiquity.
