FAU's Lifelong Learning Society Presents a "Presidential Symposia"
JUPITER, FL (December 22, 2003) - As the United States prepares to elect a new leader, focus will shift to the presidential debates and the role of the presidency. Shedding light on this timely topic, the Florida Atlantic University Lifelong Learning Society will present a "Presidential Symposia" to highlight the American presidency and national security. The eight-week lecture series begins January 16 at the Abacoa Crown Theater, 4688 Main Street, Jupiter and will be held every Friday through March 5 (with the exception of a February 19 date) from 12:15 - 2 p.m.
"No issue is more important today than that of national security," said Dr. Robert P. Watson, assistant professor of political science and symposia coordinator. "With the upcoming presidential election, we have the opportunity to present an impressive group of renowned speakers on a topic of real significance."
Distinguished speakers include:
Susan Eisenhower - granddaughter of President Dwight Eisenhower and one of the nation's leading experts on Russia. She will discuss challenges in the relationship between the U.S. and Russia.
Ken Hechler - special assistant to President Harry Truman and former member of U.S. House of Representatives, best-selling author and professor at Princeton. He will talk about the legacy of President Truman.
Peter Hannaford - longtime aide to President Ronald Reagan and author of books on Reagan, Coolidge and Washington. He will shed light on the legacy of President Reagan, including his Cold War strategy.
The cost for the lecture series is $55 for LLS members and $75 for nonmembers. Registration began on December 8, 2003. For more information, call 561-799-8547.
