FAU Vice President Named To State Board By Governor
BOCA RATON, FL (December 3, 2003) - Dr. Larry F. Lemanski, vice president for Research and Graduate Studies at Florida Atlantic University, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, Inc. (IHMC) by Governor Jeb Bush. Dr. Lemanski will serve a multi-year term which will end June 30, 2006.
"IHMC faculty and staff collaborate extensively with industry and government to develop science and technology that can help meet society's broader goals," said Dr. Lemanski. "This Institute represents an exciting frontier of research, and I am honored to serve on the IHMC Board."
The IHMC was established in 1990 as an interdisciplinary research unit of the University of West Florida. Since that time, IHMC has grown into one of the nation's premier research institutes with more than 115 researchers and staff investigating a broad range of topics related to understanding cognition in both humans and machines. Much of the research effort at IHMC is focused on what has become known as "human-centered computing," a concept which represents a significant shift in thinking about intelligent machines and information technology. Human thought and action and technological systems are seen as linked and equality important aspects of the analysis, design and evaluation of computational systems.
