FAU Math Department to Hold Annual Internet Mathematics Competition

BOCA RATON, FL (November 20, 2003) – The Florida Atlantic University Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Stuyvesant High School Alumni Association of Southeast Florida will host the Eighth Annual Internet Mathematics Competition. The competition is sponsored by the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

The competition is open to all high school and middle school students in Palm Beach, Martin and Broward counties. All interested students are encouraged to participate by trying to solve selected math problems between November 22 and December 31, 2003.

“Mathematics is one of the most talked about subjects at FAU, which is why we invite all math students to submit their solutions,” said Dr. James Roros, Research Professor of Physics at FAU and one of the organizers of the competition.

Prizes of $300, $200 and $100 plus book prizes will be given to those placing first, second and third, respectively. Other contestants with qualifying performances will also receive book prizes.
