FAU Hosts Lecture on "Mapping the History and Fate of the Universe"
Eric V. Lidner Participates in Frontiers in Science Lecture Series
BOCA RATON, FL (November 19, 2003) - Cosmological discoveries in the last few years have revolutionized our knowledge of the universe and our ideas of its ultimate fate. Eric Lidner, physicist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Head of the Supernova Acceleration Probe Theory Group, will speak on the topic of "Mapping the History and Fate of the Universe" during the final lecture of the series on Thursday, November 20 at 4 p.m. in room 126 of the Charles E. Schmidt Biomedical Science Center on Florida Atlantic University's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Lidner's lecture will explore cosmological observations regarding the new frontier. He will explain how measurements of the expansion of the universe show that it is accelerating due to a mysterious, gravitationally repulsive "dark energy."
In January 2004, Lidner will join FAU's Physics Department as a professor and director of the newly established Florida Center for Cosmology. He earned his Ph.D. at Stanford University.
This is the final lecture in a three-part Frontiers in Science lecture series. For more information on the lecture series, contact Joan Gove at 561-297-2954.
