Receive Research Funding
BOCA RATON, FL (November 18, 2003) - William A. Covino, dean of Florida Atlantic University's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, announced that 12 faculty in the College have been selected to receive a total of $138,500 in research funding from the FAU Division of Research and Graduate Studies.
The following faculty received Scholarly and Creative Activities Awards from the Division of Research and Graduate Studies: Josephine Beoku-Betts, for her study on Ghanaian and Jamaican women scientists; Alexandra Brown, for her research on nineteenth-century Brazil; Fred Fejes, for his study of gay rights in Miami; Barbara Ganson, for her look at women pilots from 1919-1945; Michael Horswell, for his study of Andean colonial literature; Marina Karides, for her research of micro-enterprises in the Republic of Cyprus; Max Kirsch, for his study of the Florida Everglades; Tammy Knipp, for her work with electronic media; Carol McGuirk, for her poetry study and Carol Prusa, for her research in paint and new image transfer technologies.
In addition, three faculty from the Department of Political Science received New Project Development Awards. David Niven won an award for his study on low voter turnout among immigrants and Robert Watson and Anita Pritchard won an award for their project on Harry Truman.
"Support for Arts and Letters research faculty and artists is a high priority," said Covino. "It enhances our College and helps us to better serve our students."
