BOCA RATON, FL (November 12, 2003) - Florida Atlantic University's School of the Arts Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Bryce Seliger, will present a program of Chopin, Dvorak, and Sibelius on Sunday, November 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre on the FAU Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The concert tickets are $12 and $15 according to seating, with group discounts available. FAU students, faculty and staff may attend the event for free with ID.

The concert will include Frédéric Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 (first movement) with FAU faculty Anne Louise-Turgeon as soloist, Antonin Dvorák's Symphony No. 8 and Jean Sibelius's Romanze for Strings. Ethnomusicologist James Cunningham will give a pre-concert lecture at 6:45 p.m. in the University Theatre

The event will be Seliger's debut performance with FAU's Symphony Orchestra. Seliger joined the faculty at FAU in August of 2003 as the new director for the symphony. Previously, she was an orchestra director at the University of South Carolina, Butler University and the State University of New York at Fredonia, and she has guest conducted professional orchestras all over the United States and Europe. She has conducted numerous world premieres, including works by Samuel O. Douglas and the film music of Christopher Young, the latter of which was televised, recorded live and released on CD by Citadel Label.

The performance is presented by the School of the Arts' Department of Music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at FAU. Tickets are available from the FAU Box Office by phone at 561-297-3737, by e-mail at ucboxoffice@fau.edu or at the door two hours prior to performance.
