FAU Offering Women's Studies Course
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (October 28, 2003) As the cultural images of women continue to evolve, Florida Atlantic University will be offering a new course on the Treasure Coast campus spring semester 2004, "Sex and Gender in American Culture." Stressing cultural images of women, gender socialization and feminist methods of analysis, the course will explore women's experiences in the United States through a multi-disciplinary analysis. It will also highlight the complex interactions of gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality and class that women must negotiate everyday in society. The class will meet on Thursdays from 4:20-7 p.m.
As a required introductory class of FAU's 5-course undergraduate certificate program in women's studies, "Sex and Gender in American Culture" heralds the expansion of women's studies course offerings to the Treasure Coast campus.
"We're very excited about this new offering at the Treasure Coast campus," said Mary Cameron, FAU's Women's Studies Center director. "'Sex and Gender in American Culture' will give students the opportunity to pursue our undergraduate certificate program and consider the FAU graduate program in Women's studies, currently Florida's largest master's program in women's studies."
FAU's spring semester begins January 7, 2004. For more information, contact the FAU Treasure Coast campus student services office at 772-873-3301.
