BOCA RATON, FL (October 28, 2003) - Art enthusiasts were treated to an evening of fine art at the opening event of the School of the Arts Inaugural Series on September 12 in Florida Atlantic University's Schmidt Center Gallery. Guests had a guided tour of the Biennial Faculty Art Exhibition and FAU's music students also performed.
William A. Covino, dean of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, welcomed the guests and introduced George Sparks, director of the School of the Arts; Angel DiCosola, chair of the Department of Visual Art and Art History; Rod Faulds, University Galleries director and Jean-Louis Baldet, chair of the Theatre Department.
The School of the Arts inaugural series continues on Sunday, November 16 at 2 p.m. when FAU's theatre department will present Peter Weiss' play "The Investigation," followed by a Talkback Panel Discussion with Department of Theatre chair Jean-Louis Baldet, faculty from FAU's Holocaust and Judaic Studies program and members of the cast. "The Investigation" deals with the atrocities of the Third Reich. The play and panel discussion will take place in the Studio One Theatre on FAU's Boca Raton campus.
The final event in the inaugural series is a reception with FAU President Frank T. Brogan and a concert that will kick off the FAU Latin Music Festival, a two-day festival at FAU's Boca Raton and Broward campuses. The President's Reception will take place Saturday, February 28 at 6 p.m. in the University Theatre. The concert following the reception will be a piano gala featuring Latin performances and other music by internationally acclaimed pianists Heather Coltman, Irena Kofman, Leonid Treer, Anne Louis-Turgeon and Edward Turgeon. There will also be vocal student performances from "Zarzuelas," directed by Patricia Fleitas.
