Seven FAU MBA Students Receive Tuckfield Scholarships
BOCA RATON, FL (October 1, 2003) - Seven Florida Atlantic University College of Business graduate students received a $1,000 Jacki Tuckfield Memorial Graduate Business Scholarship. The FAU recipients were Beverly Cordner, LaTammbra Antonia Dillard and Paige Alexandria Johnson, general MBA Program; Brandon Alexander Dorsey, Executive MBA program; Denise Michelle Littles and Sophia Michelle Webb, MBA Sport Management, and Teneshia Diahann Taylor, Weekend MBA Program.
The scholarship is offered to African-American students who are enrolled full-time in a graduate business program at a university within Florida.
"I was very honored to have been chosen," said Johnson, who is obtaining her MBA with a certificate in operations management. "I was not expecting to win, but hoping that I would."
Webb, who is working on her MBA in sport management, put the scholarship toward her Fall 2003 tuition. "I greatly appreciated [the scholarship] as I am not currently working," Webb said. In her essay Webb wrote about her previous career in the U.S. Marines and her goals in sport management.
Drs. Jack and Gloria Tuckfield created the JTMGB Scholarship Fund in memory of their daughter Jacki, a native Miamian, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Management from FAU before her untimely death in July of 1997 at the age of 25.
"I especially would like to thank Drs. Jack and Gloria Tuckfield for selecting me as a scholarship recipient," said Cordner, who is getting her MBA with a specialization in finance. "I truly admire their tireless devotion to the African-American community in their daughter's honor."
