Events to Celebrate Excellence in Honor of President Brogan's Inauguration
BOCA RATON, FL (October 22, 2003) - A four-day schedule of events, themed "Celebrating Excellence," will mark the inauguration of Frank T. Brogan as Florida Atlantic University's fifth president.
Kicking off the inaugural activities will be an FAU Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday morning, November 12 in Fort Lauderdale. On Thursday, November 13, President Brogan heads north to FAU's Treasure Coast and John D. MacArthur campuses to mingle with students, faculty and community partners. President Brogan then returns to the Boca Raton Campus for an evening of live music and casual dining BBQ-style at the Sundance Festival. At a traditional investiture ceremony on Friday, November 14 at 2 p.m. on the Boca Raton Campus, Mr. Brogan will officially be "sworn in" as president. An inaugural address by the president will follow. Closing the day's events will be an open house party for the university community at the Eleanor R. Baldwin House. The remaining weekend will offer something for everyone - theatre, football and music.
Overseeing the celebration is an advisory committee of community leaders, students, faculty and staff. Chaired by FAU Board of Trustees Vice Chair Sherry Plymale, the committee includes Armand Grossman, FAU National Alumni Association president; M.J. Mike Arts, president of the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce; Susan Whelchel, deputy mayor of the City of Boca Raton; Dr. Fred Hoffman, FAU Trustee; Dr. Robert Watson, FAU associate professor; Ancel Pratt III, president of Student Government; Betty Zinman, FAU Foundation vice chair; Virginia Miller, FAU Trustee; Dr. Gregory Aloia, dean of the College of Education; Dr. Joyanne Stephens, Broward campuses vice president; Dr. Jerry Lafferty, Treasure Coast campus vice president; Dr. Kristen Murtaugh, MacArthur Campus vice president; Dr. Dorothy Leland, Boca Raton Campus vice president; and Alene Brewer, president of the University Club.
A number of dignitaries and notables are expected to attend the inauguration including Florida Governor Jeb Bush, BOT Chair George C. Zoley, University of Central Florida President John Hitt, Broward Community College President Willis Holcombe, University of Miami President Donna Shalala, and Senator Ken Pruitt.
