FAU Narrows Provost Candidates To Four

BOCA RATON, FL (October 16, 2003) -- The search for Florida Atlantic University's provost and chief academic officer has moved closer to completion, as the pool of 70 candidates was reduced to four.

"We are very pleased with the high caliber of candidates this search has produced," said Dr. Anne Boykin, chair of the 13-member provost search committee and dean of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. "Each of these four candidates has demonstrated strong academic leadership and has the potential to advance FAU’s mission."

The candidates are:

Fred J. Maryanski – vice chancellor for academic administration, University of Connecticut. Maryanski, who earned a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Connecticut, has served in academic administrative positions at UC for more than 14 years. During his tenure at UC, Maryanski has served as interim chancellor and associate provost.

Perry Moore – senior vice president, Wright State University. Moore earned a Ph.D. in government, specializing in public administration, public law and American politics from the University of Texas at Austin. With Wright State for more than 25 years, Moore has held several administrative positions, including serving as provost and dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

Louis V. Paradise – served as executive vice chancellor and provost for eight years and provost and vice chancellor for academic and student affairs for two years and is currently a professor in educational leadership at the University of New Orleans. A graduate of the University of Virginia with a Ph.D. in counseling, Paradise has been with the University of New Orleans for more than 20 years, during which he has served also served as dean of the College of Education. Prior to his tenure at the University of New Orleans, Paradise served as a professor at the Catholic University of America.

John F. Pritchett – interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, Auburn University. Pritchett, who earned a Ph.D. in animal physiology and biological chemistry from Iowa State University, has been with Auburn University for more than 30 years. During his tenure, Pritchett has served as associate provost for academic affairs and dean of the Graduate School.

FAU’s new provost and chief academic officer will be responsible for providing leadership for the division of academic affairs.

The provost search committee, which worked with national search firm Morris & Berger, will meet again within the next several weeks to interview the candidates. The selection of FAU’s new provost should take place by the end of the year.
