FAU Graduates Third Certified Medical Business Management Class
BOCA RATON, FL (September 10, 2003) - Florida Atlantic University's Medical Business Management program presented certificates of graduation to 30 students in a ceremony held recently on FAU's Boca Raton campus. This is the third class to complete the requirements of the program, which is offered by the Department of Industry Studies in the College of Business. Since 2002, the program has certified close to seventy graduates.
The year-long curriculum is designed to address the increasing complexities of managing medical practices and the need for business education for support staff. Graduates become Certified Medical Business Managers.
"Our goal is to set a standard of professionalism for practice management," said Dr. Carl Riegel of FAU's College of Business. "This program is designed to help practices run smoothly, effectively and efficiently."
The program includes the study of medical terminology, billing and coding, insurance, financial and accounting principles, legal and regulatory issues, advanced financial management, marketing, practice development, organizational development, productivity management, computer applications, human resource management, compensation and administrative support.
Among those on hand to congratulate the graduates were Dr. Edwin Hamilton, M.D., D.MIN, past president of the Broward County Medical Association; Dr. Bruce Rappoport, director of RCH Healthcare Advisors; Dr. Carl Riegel, chair of the Department of Industry Studies and Ms. Sharon Hoydich, associate dean of FAU's Open University and Continuing Education.
The program stems from a collaborative partnership among the College of Business; Rachlin, Cohen and Holtz Healthcare Advisors; the Palm Beach County Medical Society and the Broward County Medical Association.
