HOGS Fly For Owls Home Opener

BOCA RATON, FL (September 4, 2003) - In its third season of football, Florida Atlantic University is working hard to establish new traditions. For the second year, a caravan of Harley Davidson motorcycles will carry the game ball from FAU's Boca Raton Campus to Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale for its home opener on September 6.

Members of the Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach Harley Owner's Groups (H.O.G.) will assemble Saturday, September 6 at 2 pm on FAU's Boca Raton Campus for a 2:30 p.m. departure to arrive at the stadium by 3 p.m. The caravan, which could stretch for more than a mile, will travel south on I-95 from Boca Raton to Fort Lauderdale. At 3:15 p.m., the Harley Drill Team will do a demonstration for tailgaters at Lockhart before delivering the ball into the stadium for a 4 p.m. kickoff against Valdosta State.

"Last year we had more than 50 bikes in the caravan," said Nancy Botero, assistant vice president of University Advancement and caravan organizer. "With the buzz around our first win and the excitement of being in a stadium closer to home, we're hoping for a great turnout this year."
