FAU To Offer Unique Bioengineering Graduate Certificate
BOCA RATON, FL (August 5, 2003) - As the cutting edge field of bioengineering continues to grow by leaps and bounds, Florida Atlantic University will help the industry's leaders hone their skills. Beginning this fall, FAU will offer the nation's first bioengineering graduate certificate program.
A fifteen credit, part-time, practice-oriented graduate program offering an integrated set of courses, FAU's new bioengineering certificate program focuses on the application of computer science and engineering principles to biotechnology and bioinformatics.
"We are building all types of bridges between science, engineering and medicine," said Dr. Salvatore D. Morgera, professor and chair in FAU's department of electrical engineering. "I am certain that we will ultimately have an enormous impact on our state's economy."
The curriculum for this certificate is designed to assist engineers, scientists, technical professionals, as well as qualified senior undergraduates in the development or launch of their careers. It provides the technical expertise needed in the business, government and industrial environments. These courses will cover bioinformatics, molecular genetics, bioengineering - biosystems & biosignal processing, and data mining and machine learning applied to genetics and drug discovery. Classes are typically offered in the late afternoon and evening in order to accommodate working professionals.
For further information on the bioengineering graduate certificate program, contact Dr. Morgera at 561-297-1054 or smorgera@fau.edu.
