FAU Library names "Friend of the Year"

BOCA RATON, FL (July 23, 2003) - The Robert Lee Chastain and Thomas M. Chastain Charitable Foundation has been honored as the Florida Atlantic University Library's "Friend of the Year" for 2003. The designation, given annually to an individual or organization whose support of the Library has significantly enhanced its collection or operation, was given in recognition of a substantial grant that has increased instructional and research capabilities for FAU's students and faculty.

Through the Chastain Charitable Foundation's $70,000 grant, the Library was able to purchase 21 state-of-the-art computers for the lobby at the Library's main entrance. Students now stand in line waiting to use the new computers rather than work on the older, slower computers, which are available in other areas of the Library.

Other items provided by the grant include new graphics software for the Library's Special Collections area, a top-of-the line printer and five fully portable Power Point audio visual equipment packages that are used for instruction across the University.
