FAU To Host "Fabulous 4th" Celebration
Festivities include staging of "South Pacific," concert of patriotic music and fireworks
BOCA RATON, FL (June 2003) - In collaboration with the City of Boca Raton, Florida Atlantic University will host a "Fabulous 4th" celebration on Friday, July 4. The festivities will start at 4 p.m. with a staging of "South Pacific," followed by food and family entertainment at 6 p.m., a concert of patriotic music at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m. The festivities will take place at FAU's Boca Raton campus. Tickets for the play are $15, and admission to the other festivities is free.
"South Pacific" is a family musical that takes place on a Pacific island during World War II. Considered by many to be one of the best musicals ever written, it is rich in humor and features some of the most enduring songs of the 20th century, including: "Some Enchanted Evening," "Bali Ha'i," and "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair." The play takes place in the University Theater of the Dorothy F. Schmidt Performing Arts Center at FAU.
The rest of the evening's activities will take place at the north end of FAU's Boca Raton campus. FAU is located at 777 Glades Road, ½ mile east of I-95. Follow the signs to Schmidt Theaters/Gallery for "South Pacific." There will also be signs for the concert and fireworks. For tickets to "South Pacific," call the Box Office at 561-297-3737.
