FAU To Celebrate Spring Commencement
BOCA RATON, FL (May 2, 2003) - In a year of firsts, Florida Atlantic University President Frank Brogan '81 will host his first commencement ceremony on Friday, May 2.
More than 2,000 students will receive their degrees from FAU during the spring commencement ceremonies. These students will join more than 80,000 alumni who have graduated from FAU since the University opened its doors nearly 40 years ago.
"I am truly blessed to share this momentous occasion with our hard working students, their families and friends," said Brogan. "I congratulate everyone who has worked so hard to reach this milestone."
Highlighting the accomplishments of an FAU alumnus, the morning commencement ceremony will honor Miles A. McGrane, III, '70, a South Florida leader who will receive the FAU National Alumni Association Hall of Fame Award, which recognizes distinguished alumni who demonstrate exceptional service and commitment to their profession or to the community.
President of McGrane and Nosich, P.A., McGrane is a trial attorney who graduated from FAU in 1970 with a bachelor of science in business administration and earned his juris doctorate from Samford University Cumberland School of Law. The president-elect of the Florida Bar, McGrane belongs to the International Association of Defense Council and is a member of the Florida and national chapters of the American Board of Trial Advocates. As Florida Bar Association president, McGrane will represent the state's 67,000 licensed attorneys, chair Board of Governors meetings and serve as the liaison between the Florida Supreme Court and the Florida Bar. McGrane is also an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law.
"Mr. McGrane is an asset to the South Florida legal community," said Patricia Breman, FAU Alumni Affairs director. "His dedication to his field and to the continued education of future attorneys exemplifies his commitment to the legal profession."
All commencement exercises will be held at FAU's gymnasium, 777 Glades Road. The schedule of the ceremonies is as follows:
" Friday, May 2, 9 a.m. - College of Architecture, Urban & Public Affairs; College of Business; Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College and the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science
" Friday, May 2, 2 p.m. - Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, College of Education, College of Engineering and the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing
