FAU's Lifelong Learning Society Presents Seminar on the United Nations

JUPITER, FL (April 7, 2003) - As the world's attentions focus on the war in Iraq and on U.S. foreign policy, Florida Atlantic University's Lifelong Learning Society in Jupiter will present a one-day seminar on the role of the United Nations on Friday, April 11. The program includes a concert from 11:15 a.m. - 1 p.m. and a panel discussion from 3 - 4:45 p.m. The seminar will be held at the Jupiter Community Center, 210 Military Trail, Jupiter, Florida.

FAU professors Dr. Jeffrey S. Morton and Dr. Paul Forage will lead the seminar and a discussion on "International Crises: Two Perspectives." The discussion will highlight the contemporary debate over the U.N.'s role in international crises. Professors Forage and Morton will articulate the differences of perception between the U.S. and the world as they relate to the United Nations.

As part of the seminar's activities, the Symphony for the United Nations (SUN) will perform. Maestro Joseph Eger will conduct a representative group of the SUN in "Music: The Common Denominator." SUN is a non-governmental organization in association with the U.N. Department of Public Information. SUN has performed concerts and programs in many parts of the world, raising funds for such causes as refugees, the environment, children's issues, education and peace.

Professor Jeffrey Morton is an associate professor of international law and politics, and director of graduate studies in the department of political science at FAU where he regularly teaches U.S. Foreign Policy.

Professor Paul Forage has taught at FAU for the past five years. His areas of specialty include Chinese history, military history and the history of science and technology. He serves as director of peace studies in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters.

Cost for the seminar is $30 for LLS members and $35 for non-members. Reservations are required. For information, call 561-799-8667.
