LIFE Foundation Makes Second $100,000 Gift
To Honors College at Florida Atlantic University
JUPITER, FL (April 4, 2003) - Philanthropist Lois Pope's LIFE Foundation has made a second gift of $100,000 to underwrite scholarships at Florida Atlantic University's Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College.
The Manalapan-based foundation, whose acronym stands for Leaders in Furthering Education, established the scholarship program last year. It provides awards of $2,500 per year to students in need of financial assistance who have served their communities as well as distinguished themselves academically. Applicants must be Florida residents who have been accepted by the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College. The scholarship awards are renewable to cover all four undergraduate years.
"By doubling the gift that funds this scholarship program, Mrs. Pope has greatly expanded its reach," said Dr. William Mech, dean of the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College. "We deeply appreciate the role she is playing in bringing worthy students to the Honors College and helping them succeed."
