FAU Search For Provost, Athletics Director Underway
BOCA RATON, FL (April 23, 2003) In an effort to fill top administrative positions at Florida Atlantic University, officials have begun the search for a new university provost and athletics director.
The two vacancies, which should be filled within the next several months, will oversee two major areas of the university academics and athletics.
When I accepted the position of university president, I made a commitment to the FAU community to find dynamic, world-class professionals to fill the provost and athletics director roles, said FAU President Frank Brogan. The individuals selected for these very important positions will have the opportunity to build on the successes and traditions already started at FAU.
The provost, who is the chief academic officer of the university and the second-ranking official, will provide leadership for the universitys academic colleges and other academic programs and services. The provost will lead the Division of Academic Affairs, which comprises FAUs eight colleges, delivering more than 130 academic programs. The provost will also oversee the universitys libraries, Information Resource Management, Institutional Effectiveness and Analysis, as well as the Division of Open University and Continuing Education and the Lifelong Learning Services.
FAUs new athletics director will be responsible for the universitys intercollegiate athletics program, which consists of 18 mens and womens sports. In addition, the new athletics director will be charged with ensuring compliance with the NCAA and Atlantic Sun Conference rules and regulations, promote student-athlete success and provide leadership for external fundraising.
Both positions will be advertised nationally and the review of candidates will be headed by two 13-member committees made up of FAU personnel, students and alumni.
