FAU Donor Receives Community Service Award
Boca Raton, FL (April 2, 2003) -- Florida Atlantic University donor Dick Schmidt was recently honored by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel at the Publisher's Community Service Awards ceremony.
As part of the Sentinel's recognition, Schmidt, philanthropist and friend to FAU, received a $10,000 grant for his dedication and contribution to the community. Schmidt donated the $10,000 grant to the FAU Foundation to continue support of the academic initiatives of the university. This amount is in addition to the more than $27 million the Schmidt Family Foundation has already donated to programs at Florida Atlantic University.
"It is a generous gift on behalf of the Schmidt family," said FAU President Frank Brogan. "The untiring philanthropic efforts of the Schmidt Family Foundation has allowed for remarkable new programs at FAU."
As president of the Schmidt Family Foundation, Schmidt oversees the funding decisions of the foundation established nearly 30 years ago by his mother and father, the late Charles and Dorothy Schmidt. Today, the Schmidt name graces two FAU colleges, a visual and performing arts complex and a new biomedical science center.
