FAU Hosts Staged Reading Of Stanford Lyman's Play
BOCA RATON, FL (March 26, 2003) - Florida Atlantic University will present a staged reading of Stanford Lyman's play "The Palm of Death" on Sunday, April 6 at 7 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Auditorium of FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. Lyman, professor of social science at FAU, passed away earlier this month.
"The Palm of Death," a mystery that uses the framework of a Sherlock Holmes novel, explores the question: who migrated across the Bering Strait centuries ago and which culture, Native American or Asian, evolved first?
Caren S. Neile, a former student of Lyman's, coordinated the performance with other FAU students, including Bonnie Benson as director, Shereen Siddiqui, Natalia Rita Giannini, Umar Ghuman, Ana Adriazola-Rodriquez, Anita Kirchen, Jane Day, Rachel Flynn, Emanuele Pettener, John Jamieson, Noah Levine, Paul Macombe and Paul Anthony Dottin, a former student of Lyman's who was the first graduate of the Ph.D. in Comparative Studies Public Intellectuals Program at FAU.
Lyman, recognized worldwide as a preeminent sociologist, anthropologist, historian, political scientist and psychologist, hoped to be remembered for expanding understanding of the many cultures that make up a complex society, "the tragedies, the comedies of them living uneasily with each other."
The all-student production of Lyman's play is free and open to the public. For more information, call 561-297-3296.
