FAU Math Competition Winners Announced
BOCA RATON, FL (Feb. 12, 2003) -- The Department of Mathematical Sciences of the Florida Atlantic University Schmidt College of Science announced the winners of the seventh FAU/Stuyvesant Internet Math Competition.
The competition, in which South Florida high school students use the Internet to solve mathematics problems of varying difficulty, was sponsored by the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin counties and the South Florida Stuyvesant High School Alumni Association.
In a ceremony held earlier this month, the following winners were announced:
· First place - Daniel Franke, Marjorie Stoneham High School, eleventh grade
· Second place - Lisa Streit, Suncoast High School, twelfth grade
· Third place - Becky Streit, Suncoast High School, twelfth grade and
William Jacobs, Suncoast High School, eleventh grade
· Honorable Mention - Jason Kleban Pine Crest School, eighth grade
The first, second and third place winners received cash prizes for their accomplishments. Additionally, the winners, including the recipient of the Honorable Mention, received two books on mathematics and a one year student membership in the Mathematical Association of America.
