FAU Team To Race Dragon Boats
BOCA RATON, FL (Feb. 3, 2003) -- As the Chinese New Year gets underway, Florida Atlantic University students and staff will race a 1,500 pound dragon boat as part of a celebration never before seen in the South Florida area.
FAU student-athletes and staff will take on other community groups in a dragon boat race down the New River in Fort Lauderdale during the Fort Lauderdale Dragon Boats and Busker Festival on Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. 5 p.m.
The race, which is part of a the first-ever three-day celebration along the New River beginning on Friday, Feb. 7, will feature the worlds largest flat bottom racing canoes. The boats, 20 meters in length, will feature 20 paddlers propelling it through the rivers waters.
Race heats will begin at Esplanade Park and will finish at the DDA Plaza.
