FAU Narrows Presidential Candidates To Three

BOCA RATON, FL (Jan. 24, 2003) -- The pool of candidates for Florida Atlantic University's presidency was narrowed down today from five to three after two days of interviews by the presidential search committee.
"The candidates were exceptional," said Dr. George C. Zoley, FAU Board of Trustees chairman and chairman of the presidential search committee. "No matter who is selected next week, FAU will be in good hands."
The candidates are:
" Frank Brogan - Brogan, Lieutenant Governor of Florida, is an FAU alumnus who earned a master of education in administration/supervision from the university. The former Commissioner of Education for Florida, Brogan has previously worked as the superintendent of schools in Martin County and a principal of a middle school. He is also president and a founding member of the Education Leaders Council, a national organization founded in 1995 to represent leaders in education committed to reforms in the education system.
" Stanley Eugene Fish - Fish, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago, earned a Ph.D. from Yale. Fish has held several faculty positions including, professor of English, criminal justice, and political science. Fish was named the William Kennan, Jr. Professor of English and Humanities at Johns Hopkins University and has served as the arts and sciences chair in English at Duke University.
" Thomas R. Hanley - Hanley is the dean of engineering and professor of chemical engineering at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Hanley earned a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and later, a master's of business administration degree in management from Wright State University. Hanley has been a professor and past chairman of chemical engineering at Florida State University and professor and head of chemical engineering at Louisiana Tech University, among other teaching

Starting on Tuesday, Jan. 28, the candidates will tour selected FAU campuses and will meet with students, faculty and staff. The site visits are scheduled to run through Thursday, Jan. 30.
The FAU Board to Trustees will meet on Friday, Jan. 31 to interview the final three candidates and possibly select FAU's new president.
