George C. Zoley Named Chairman Of The FAU Board Of Trustees
BOCA RATON, FL (Jan. 16, 2003) -- The Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees met on Wednesday for the first time after a constitutional amendment called for reorganization.
During the first meeting, Dr. George C. Zoley, an FAU alumnus, was elected chairman, and Sherry Plymale was elected to the vice chair position. Zoley is chairman and CEO of Wackenhut Corrections Corporation and a member of FAU's Foundation Board of Directors. Zoley is also the chair of FAU's Presidential Search Committee. Plymale is past chair of the State Board of Community Colleges and former chief of staff of the Florida Education Commissioner.
Committee chairs will be named to five standing committees during the first week of February. The committees are: audit and finance, academic affairs and planning, governance, personnel and compensation, and affiliated organizations.
Under the new system, each university retains a local Board of Trustees that works with a statewide Board of Governors to steer the institutions. All appointments to the new Board of Trustees require Senate confirmation.
