DEAD SEA SCROLLS EXPERT TO SPEAK AT FAU LIBRARY
Dr. Adolfo Roitman, an expert on the Dead Sea Scrolls, will speak at the S. E. Wimberly Library on Florida Atlantic University's Boca Raton Campus on Thursday, February 13, at 7:30 p.m. His lecture is titled "The Library of Qumran and Its Significance for the Understanding of Ancient Judaism."
Dr. Roitman, an ordained rabbi, is the director and curator of the Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, which houses Israel's collection of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bar Kokhba Cave of Letters materials. Dr. Roitman has made significant contributions to the understanding of the Scrolls and is involved in their editing. His recent work includes a book titled "A Day in Qumran," and articles on "The Building of the Shrine of the Book," a new catalog for the "Daily Life at Qumran" exhibit at the Shrine, and a book on the symbol of the serpent and the origins of evil.
Dr. Roitman holds a Ph.D. degree in Ancient Jewish Literature and Religion from Hebrew University in Israel.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
