FAU REACHES $50 MILLION MARK IN RESEARCH EXPENDITURES
BOCA RATON, FL (Jan. 26, 2003) -- Florida Atlantic University announced today that for the first time in history, its annual research expenditures have surpassed $50 million.
"We're extremely excited to have reached this benchmark," said Dr. Larry F. Lemanski, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies. "It shows that FAU now has the mechanisms in place to achieve significant prominence in university research on national and international levels.
Over the past seven years, FAU's research expenditures have grown from just over $20 million. In the past year alone, this figure increased from $41.5 million to $50.1 million. The nearly 21% increase is more than double the increase for any previous year.
FAU Interim President Richard L. Osburn called this a major step toward bringing FAU to the ranks of major research-extensive universities. "When Dr. Lemanski came to FAU from Texas A&M University in 2000 to lead the newly created Division of Research, he said that we would reach $100 million mark in just five years. We are on track to achieve, and perhaps even surpass, this goal."
