BOCA RATON, FL (December 12, 2007) – The Florida Board of Governors has appointed Tom Workman ‘71 to the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees. Workman is replacing former BOT member George Zoley.
“Tom Workman is another fine addition to the outstanding leadership that already exists with FAU’s Board of Trustees,” said FAU President Frank T. Brogan. “Tom’s energy and talents only will help the board direct this university through many more years of remarkable growth and success.”
The Trustees, a 13-member group, are responsible for cost-effective policy decisions appropriate to the university’s mission, the implementation and maintenance of high-quality education programs, the measurement of performance, the reporting of information, and the provision of input regarding state policy, budgeting and education standards.
“It is an honor to be selected to serve on the Board of Trustees of such a fine University, on behalf of Florida and the Board of Governors,” said Workman. “Florida Atlantic University has played a very important part in my career. We have a great faculty and staff, and I look forward to helping in the continued advancement of this great institution.”
Workman began his accounting career at Price Waterhouse, where he worked from 1971 to 1973. Since 1973, Workman has been either the president or managing partner of his own accounting firms. He also has been actively involved with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA). Workman served as an AICPA Council member and on the FICPA Board of Governors from 1988 to 1991, and has participated on and chaired numerous committees. He is a personal financial specialist, AICPA accredited, and was formerly on the board of directors of First United Bank and First United Bancorp, as well as a founding director of Mizner Bank.
Workman’s leadership in public service organizations includes past president and charter member, Greater Boca Raton Estate Planning Council; past president, Rotary Club of Boca Raton; past chairman, Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce; past president, American Heart Association, Boca Raton Division; and formerly on the board of directors, American Heart Association, Florida/Puerto Rico Affiliate. Workman currently serves as treasurer for the FAU Foundation and the Boca Raton Historical Society. An active alumnus and lifetime member of the FAU National Alumni Association (FAUNAA), Workman and his wife, Maureen, reside in Boca Raton. They have two children, Michael and Tammy.
