FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (December 14, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University’s Lifelong Learning Society will kick off its Winter 2007 session by celebrating the diversity of the arts in South Florida during Performing Arts Week, to be held January 8 – 12, 2007, at the Hollywood Beach Cultural and Community Center. Different genres will be highlighted each day, from folk and Klezmer music to jazz and historical theater.
A full season of diverse course offerings, taught by FAU professors and distinguished guest lecturers, are available to the Broward community. Offerings will range from Judaic studies, world cultures, current events (focusing on terrorism), opera and Florida literature to an exploration of research into aging and lifespan extension. Classes run from four to eight weeks at locations in Hollywood, Davie and Fort Lauderdale and are tailored to suit a large cross-section of interests while broadening cultural exposure and awareness.
FAU’s Lifelong Learning Society was founded more than two decades ago and has grown into one of the most successful programs of its kind in the United States, with more than 20,000 members across South Florida. The program’s goal has always been to enrich the lives of mature students by offering learning opportunities through non-credit, university-level courses.
“The Lifelong Learning Society provides a unique opportunity for students of all ages to go back to school and make learning a lifelong journey,” said Sherre Clegg-Jolly, FAU Broward’s LLS program coordinator.
Course registration is now available for the Winter 2007 session. For a catalog or more information, contact the Lifelong Learning Society at 954-762-5169 or LLSBroward@fau.edu. Catalogs and program information are also available on the Lifelong Learning Society website at www.lll.fau.edu.
