BOCA RATON, FL (December 5, 2006) – The world renowned Cuarteto Latinoamericano will perform with Florida Atlantic University’s department of music chair Heather Coltman on Saturday, December 16 at 3 p.m. in the University Theatre on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The concert is presented by FAU’s department of music in the School of the Arts in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door prior to the concert.
The concert will include “Clocks Op. 58” and “Charango Capriccioso Op. 90” by Miguel del Aguila and “Quintet for two violins, viola, cello and piano” by Amy Beach. The award-winning Cuarteto consists of the three Britran brothers (Saul, Aron and Alvaro) along with Javier Montiel. Originating from Mexico, the group has been nominated for a Grammy award and for a Latin Grammy. They are known worldwide as the leading proponent of Latin American music for string quartet. They are currently in residence at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
Coltman, who is currently chair of FAU’s music department and director of keyboard studies, has performed extensively as a solo and collaborative pianist throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, South Africa and Greece. Among the many competitions in which she has received top awards are the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition and the Geza Anda International Piano Competition. In addition, Coltman won the Outstanding Accompanist Award in both the Corpus Christi Young Artists Competition and the Emanuel Feurmann International Cello Competition.
