BOCA RATON, FL (November 7, 2006)– Jeff Spoeri, director of development for the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science at Florida Atlantic University, won his first round on Jeopardy!, which aired Monday, November 6.
Spoeri’s first audition with Jeopardy! consisted of taking an online test in February. Although he received no results from this test, he was contacted in May via e-mail to go to Orlando for a personal audition where he joined 120 other hopeful contestants. In Orlando, he took a written test, played a mock game of Jeopardy! and had a personal interview with members of the staff. Again, Spoeri received no results.
In August, Spoeri received a call from Jeopardy! personnel to travel to Culver City, California to appear on the televised game show. As seen on television across the nation, Spoeri won his first game of Jeopardy! He will continue appearing on the nightly game show until he loses.
“The best part of the experience was working with the Jeopardy! staff. They did everything to minimize the stress,” said Spoeri. “I also treasure the bonding that occurred among my fellow contestants. I was glad to have the chance to mention FAU on the air. I very much appreciate the support I’ve received from the university and especially my colleagues in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science and University Advancement. I did my best to represent the university well.”
