BOCA RATON, FL (November 3, 2006) - Florida Atlantic University’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Science announces the election of Dr. Russel Ivy, professor and chair of the department of geosciences, to a two year term as vice president of the Southeastern Division of Association of American Geographers(SEDAAG).
Ivy has been a member of SEDAAG since 1989 and has held a number of committee chairs. “It’s been a real pleasure being involved in SEDAAG. It is my pet organization because I see very clearly the fruits of my labor,” said Ivy. “The organization does a great deal to help academic departments, particularly small departments that are not well supported at their own institutions, and students, and this makes my efforts on behalf of SEDAAG extremely rewarding.”
SEDAAG was formed in 1947 for the purpose of promoting the discipline of geography throughout the Southeastern states. The organization is supportive of teachers and students of geography through resource grants, teaching workshops, and paper and poster competitions. It also hosts a World Geography Bowl with teams of students from all over the United States.
Ivy will attend the November meeting in Morgantown, West Virginia, at which time he will be inducted into office.
