FAU Names New Senior Vice President for University Advancement and Alumni Relations

BOCA RATON, FL (October 31, 2007) - Florida Atlantic University President Frank T. Brogan recently named Randy Talbot as the University’s new senior vice president for university advancement and alumni relations.  Talbot will begin his tenure at FAU on Monday, December 3, 2007.

Responsible for the overall direction and management of all advancement and alumni relations activities at FAU, Talbot will provide leadership in identifying, cultivating and soliciting donations to FAU, and develop goals and objectives for advancement and alumni relations functions and activities.

“Throughout this search, FAU had the good fortune of working with a very strong pool of quality candidates,” said FAU President Frank T. Brogan.  “I feel confident that Randy Talbot is the kind of well regarded, seasoned professional who can lead the University’s Foundation efforts to the next level.  His enthusiasm, knowledge and drive will complement FAU’s talented group of professionals who are dedicated to taking this University to national and international levels of excellence over the next decade and beyond.”

The executive committee of the Florida Atlantic University Foundation, Inc. will recommend the appointment of Talbot as executive director of the Foundation at its November 8 meeting.  Serving as executive director of the FAU Foundation, Inc., Talbot is responsible for overseeing Foundation operations and staff, and will develop and execute a strategic plan for the Foundation to enhance philanthropy’s role in supporting the University’s strategy for the future.  He will work closely with the chair of the Foundation to maintain positive and ongoing communication between the University and the Foundation leadership, and will provide advice, counsel and direction, as appropriate, to the Foundation, its staff and board of directors.

“The volunteer board of the Florida Atlantic University Foundation was involved with this search process from the first day, providing the input and guidance necessary to identify a top caliber candidate,” said Leslie M. Corley, chair of the FAU Foundation, Inc. “We were so very fortunate that the pool of applicants was impressive, and the ultimate selection of Randy Talbot will provide to the Foundation and the University the energetic, experienced and talented professional needed for this vital position.”

Most recently, Talbot served as executive director of the alumni association at the University of Florida.  In this position, he was responsible for leading University of Florida alumni programs.  Previous to this, Talbot served as the vice president of university advancement at Utah State University and vice president of constituent programs at Florida State University.  Talbot, a native of South Florida, brings more than 20 years of fundraising experience in higher education to this position.

"The commitment of the faculty and staff, mixed with the energy of the students and the desire of the community to support the mission of Florida Atlantic made this an easy decision. I want to be part of this dynamic,” said Talbot. “As soon as I finish up my obligation at the University of Florida, I will be ready to get to work."

In a search that took approximately five months, nearly 100 candidates applied for the position from around the nation.  Of those applicants, three finalists were chosen to interview with a cross section of the University.  Talbot is a graduate of the University of Florida.
