FAU Announces the 11th Internet High School Mathematics Competition

          BOCA RATON, FL (October 20, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University’s Department of Mathematical Sciences, part of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, will host its 11^th annual Internet Mathematics Competition for the academic year 2006-2007.  The competition is open to all high school students in Palm Beach, Broward and neighboring counties.

            The purpose of the competition is to encourage students to solve mathematics problems of varying difficulty, to challenge their mathematics skills and ingenuity, and to prepare them for the more formal competitions hosted around the nation.

The competition consists of six challenging problems, which can be viewed at www.math.fau.edu/mathematicscompetition.  Contestants interested in obtaining a written copy of the competition problems, or wanting to submit their answers in writing, may write to: Dr. Xiao-Dong Zhang, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Florida Atlantic University, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton, FL 33431-0991.  Solutions will not be accepted by e-mail.    To qualify as contest entries, submissions must be postmarked on or before November 10.
