FAU’s College of Education to conduct monitored exercise program
BOCA RATON, FL (September 27, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University’s College of Education’s “FAU Well Program” invites the community to celebrate the World Health Organization’s International Day of Older Persons on Friday, September 29, 2006 at the FAU Boca Raton campus gymnasium (The Arena) from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m.
“The FAU Well program is one of the University’s most important outreach activities,” said FAU President Frank T. Brogan. “We hope more and more mature adults in our area will take advantage of the opportunity to promote their health and enhance their lives through this very sensible exercise program.”
For over 18 years, the College of Education’s FAU Well Program has provided the older adult the opportunity to exercise in a safe and monitored environment. The program serves as both a community outreach project and a practical experience for FAU students enrolled in the College’s exercise science and health promotion department. Program activities include walking, strength training and flexibility, which all contribute to physical well-being. In addition, the social interactions among the participants and college students make excellent cross-generational experiences.
“Physical activity has been shown to enhance life for all ages, especially the older adult,” said Anita D’Angelo-Herold, director of the FAU Well Program.
The community is invited to join in celebrating the participants of the FAU Well Program. Various aspects of the program will be on display, along with brief testimonials from some of the participants. Long-term program participants will be honored beginning at 8 a.m.
