FAU’s College of Engineering and Computer Science Announces Dual Enrollment Opportunity

Engineering Academy

BOCA RATON, FL (September 12, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science is pleased to offer it’s yearly academic dual enrollment opportunity, Engineering Academy (EA), to qualified high school students in Broward and Palm Beach counties.  Eligible students will earn three college credits and ½ high school credit for their work.

Engineering Academy will engage students in challenging educational activities not available in high school and provide them opportunities to explore engineering and computer science as possible career choices. The program will be presented in eight Saturday class sessions beginning in January and ending in April. Classes will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on scheduled days.  There will be three 3000 level courses from which to choose.  The popular civil engineering course entitled Innovative Materials for Infrastructure, offered for the first time in the Engineering Scholars’ Program 2006, will be offered this spring.  The other equally challenging and exciting courses are Inventive Problem Solving and Web Technology.  Please note, although the course syllabus for Web Technology states the requirement that students in this class know some programming, students who have good computer knowledge but no programming may still apply.

Although tuition is waived for qualified Broward and Palm Beach county students because of an articulation agreement between the University and those school systems, each student is required to pay a $50 fee and $10 for an ID card.  Also note, participants are responsible for their own transportation and for lunches.

To read course syllabi, find out more about the program and download an application, please visit www.dess.eng.fau.edu/academy.htm. Applications are due by November 1.

For more information, contact Dr. Sharon Schlossberg in the Division of Engineering Student Services office at 561-297-2680 or dess@fau.edu.
