BarCharts® of Boca Raton Funds $12,500 Scholarship at FAU

BOCA RATON, FL (September 5, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University recently announced that Andrea Alzate received the BarCharts®-Joanne Jackson Memorial Fellowship at FAU.  The fellowship, sponsored by BarCharts®, awards a $12,500 fellowship/internship to a FAU student in communications, graphic arts or a related area. The fellowship was named in memory of Joanne Jackson, who was an employee at BarCharts®, and whose husband Mark Jackson, who is an FAU chemistry professor has consulted with BarCharts® .

BarCharts® is the world’s leading publisher of laminated quick reference guides. Their products cover more than 350 topics and are sold in over 18,000 retail location across North America. The overall goal of BarCharts® is to help individuals learn large sums of information in a quick, easy and innovative format.    

The fellowship, established to support an FAU student who is interested in commercial writing, publishing and/or graphic design, assists the student in completing his/her degree.  It also provides the student with practical job experience in the field through a a one-year, four-credit internship at BarCharts®.

“We are thrilled that BarCharts® will be supporting Andrea and giving her the opportunity to further explore the field of graphic design and publishing,” said Angela DiCosola, chair of the department of visual arts and art history in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters.  “We welcome the opportunity to work more closely with businesses in the community.”
