FAU Ranks Among Top 100 Colleges and Universities in Producing Graduate Degrees for Minorities

            BOCA RATON, FL (August 3, 2007) - Florida Atlantic University was ranked as one of the top 100 four-year colleges in the nation for conferring master’s degrees to African-Americans according to a survey in “Diverse: Issues in Higher Education,” a magazine published bi-weekly that informs leaders from academe, industry and public policy about current trends and issues that are going on in the United States.

            “Florida Atlantic University is very proud of its diverse graduate student body,” said FAU President Frank T. Brogan. “Being recognized in several disciplines and among many ethnicities for great achievements in higher education is exciting for the whole university.”

            For the 2005-06 academic year, FAU ranked 10th in conferring master’s degrees to Hispanic American students, a 200 percent increase from the 2004-05 academic year. Also, FAU ranked 24th in the nation, a 300 percent increase from 2004-05, in delivering these types of degrees to African American students.

             Other notable rankings include:

  • FAU ranked 21st in the nation for the number of master’s degrees conferred in computer and information sciences and support services to Hispanic-American students.
  • FAU ranked 40th in the nation in conferring master’s degrees to Asian-American students.
  • FAU ranked 42nd in the nation in conferring master’s degrees in business, management, marketing and related support services to African-American students.

            FAU’s student population of approximately 26,000 showcases diversity, with 58 percent of the student body being Caucasian, 17 percent African American, 16 percent Hispanic, four percent international and five percent Asian.
