BOCA RATON, FL (August 18, 2006) - The University Club of the Florida Atlantic University Foundation, Inc., has made a generous donation of $4,800 to support four deserving FAU Libraries staff members who are pursuing Master of Library Science degrees. The recipients of the award include Lyn LaVigne, coordinator, library academic support services; Stacey A. Mihm, senior library technical assistant; Leah P. Plocharczyk, senior library technical assistant, and Jane Strudwick, coordinator, academic support services. Chosen by the FAU Libraries’ staff organization and development committee, all four recipients demonstrated excellent scholarship, promise of leadership and financial need.
“It is a privilege and an honor for The University Club to present academic scholarships in the field of library science. We are very pleased to be able to assist employees who are seeking their master's degrees in library science,” said Alene Brewer, president of The University Club. “The challenge of providing quality education to worthy students has been and always will be the motivation behind all activities of The University Club.”
Dedicated to the advancement of academic and research programs at FAU, The University Club, since its founding in 1976, has raised more than $745,000 for scholarships and University Libraries. The club raised $45,340 in 2005-06 through benefit fundraisers and individual contributions.
“For the third year in a row, The University Club has come forward to help, this time enabling our staff to upgrade their skills. The employees really appreciate this encouragement and support. Our friends at The University Club have provided us with opportunities to enhance our staff development and expand our services,” said Dr. William Miller, director of FAU Libraries.
