BOCA RATON, FL (August 8, 2006) – The department of music in Florida Atlantic University’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters recently announced the appointment of Sean Murray as director of the FAU Marching Band.
Murray comes to FAU from the Florida State University College of Music where he has been a teacher and director since 2002. He also received his bachelors, masters and doctor of philosophy in music education from FSU. Murray’s professional affiliations include the Music Educators National Conference, Florida Music Educators Association, Florida Bandmasters Association, the College Band Directors National Association, and the Hillsborough County Secondary Music Council.
“Sean Murray will bring a high level of energy to the Marching Band in 2006. The Band is going to be great for FAU football and its fans, and it will give many FAU students a chance to continue to be involved in a musical tradition that they loved in high school,” said Heather Coltman, chair of FAU’s music department.
FAU’s marching band, the Marching Owls, will begin practice on Wednesday, August 16, with the first home football game of the season on Thursday, October 12. In addition to football games, the marching band will perform at exhibitions, basketball games and various community events.
