Real Estate Developer Anthony Barbar to Lead Board
BOCA RATON, FL (August 9, 2006) – The Florida Atlantic University National Alumni Association (FAUNAA) recently held its annual meeting and election. Neale Poller, BA ’66, presided over his final meeting as president, passing the gavel to newly-elected President Anthony Barbar, BBA ’78. Other members elected to be part of the 2006-07 FAUNAA executive committee were Gloria Branch, BBA ’91, president-elect; Romayne Berry, MBA ’98, vice president; Jan Moore Scheirich, BA ’93, secretary; and Ray Monteleone, MBA ’92, treasurer. The FAUNAA also added 10 new members and re-elected four current members to serve three-year terms.
Anthony Barbar is a real estate developer and advisor skilled in designing strategic plans for his many clients. As president of Barbar & Associates, he uses his strengths as a communicator to address the diverse needs of his stakeholders. A leader in the real estate industry for 28 years, Barbar has been instrumental in bringing the concept of “family communities” to Boca Raton. He was at one time named one of the youngest executives to be involved in the acquisition, planning, designing, financing and selling of large residential properties. Dedicated to advancing academic opportunities, Barbar is a trustee of Palm Beach Atlantic University and on the Parents Council of Wheaton College. He is a member of the Realtor Association of the Palm Beaches, the Florida Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, Sheridan House Family Ministries and the Boca Raton Community Church.
Gloria S. Branch is currently vice president of private banking with Colonial Bank. Building upon her degree in finance, Branch has worked in the banking industry for the past 20 years. In addition, she volunteers at the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and March of Dimes, and serves on the board of directors of the Florence Fuller Child Development Center and the League for Educational Awareness of the Holocaust, Inc. (LEAH).
Romayne P. Berry has a successful career in finance, operations and corporate human resource management. In her current position, she is senior vice president for Consulting Services for Right Management. Berry has worked for an executive search firm, and such companies as Tire Kingdom and Arby’s/Triarc Restaurant Group. She has served as a volunteer for professional and charitable organizations and has co-authored articles on labor and human resources.
Janice Moore Scheirich is the clerk for the town of Manalapan, where she is responsible for website and newsletter publications. While at FAU, she was a founding sister of the local sorority Delta Chi Omega and the national sorority Phi Sigma Sigma. Scheirich served as a communications assistant at the Adolph and Rose Levis Jewish Community Center from 1995 to 1998.
Ray Monteleone, former deputy commissioner, chief operating officer and chief education financial officer for the Florida Department of Education, is currently president of Monteleone and Associates. Monteleone has worked in senior level management positions for major businesses in Florida and around the world. His civic interests have garnered him appointments to many board positions throughout the state. Monteleone played a key role in the establishment of the Broward Alumni Roundtable and acted as that group’s inaugural chair.
Other newly elected FAUNAA board members for the 2006-07 term include Jennifer Geiser, BA ’02, an attorney with Fowler White Boggs Banker in West Palm Beach; Katherine Molinet, BS ’95, MS ’04, an advanced registered nurse practitioner; Brian Oliver, BA ’98, vice president of sales and marketing, and equity partner at ADPRO Specialties, Inc.; John Scannell, BBA ’92, financial controller/human resource director for the Boca Raton Housing Authority; Susan Skemp, BSME ’81, executive vice president for The AmericanSociety of Civil Engineers; Sara Collier Valdivieso, BAE ’99, MNM ’03, a kindergarten teacher, and Mary Wood, BBA ’76, a public accountant and managing partner for Tatum LLC in South Florida.
