BOCA RATON, FL (August 9, 2006) - Florida Atlantic University President Frank T. Brogan named Dr. Charles L. Brown as the university’s next vice president for student affairs. In this role, Brown will be responsible for overseeing a variety of services offered to FAU’s more than 26,000 student population, including housing, multicultural affairs, student activities, club and organizations, the Wellness Center, Career Development Center, and other services and centers.
“I am extremely excited and pleased to be chosen as the next vice president of student affairs at FAU,” said Brown. “I was very impressed with the students, faculty and staff that I met and strongly believe this is a very exciting time to be a member of the FAU community.”
Since 1975, Brown has made his mark at universities across the nation in the area of student affairs. In his most recent role, he served as the vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg. In this position, Brown was the campus student affairs officer and a member of the chancellor’s cabinet, providing leadership, administration, coordination and support for a growing student affairs division. Prior to joining USF, he held the position of vice president for student development and campus life at Wayne State University.
“It is my belief that Charles will be an ideal fit for the division of student affairs as he works to expand student services on all of FAU’s campuses,” said FAU President Frank T. Brogan. “One of his primary objectives will be to enhance the university learning environment by broadening the range of programs offered that enrich the educational experience of all students.”
Brown was selected from a large pool of candidates in a selection process that was held university-wide and spanned seven months. He will begin his tenure as vice president of student affairs beginning on September 1, 2006. Brown earned his undergraduate degree in sociology and education from Blackburn College in Calinville, IL. He received both his master’s degree in education administration and Ph.D. in education from Illinois State University, located in Normal, IL.
