FAU Names First Vice President for Communications and Marketing

BOCA RATON, FL (June 20, 2006) - Florida Atlantic University recently named Aileen Izquierdo vice president for the University’s newly developed division of communications and marketing.  In this role, Izquierdo is responsible for creating and managing integrated communications plans and initiatives for internal and external university audiences that are aligned with the University’s strategic plan.  Izquierdo is FAU’s first Hispanic vice president in the University’s 41 year history.

“As FAU continues its endeavor to become a world class institution, the communication efforts of the university are paramount to its success,” said FAU President Frank T. Brogan.  “I am pleased that Aileen is leading the university’s effort on a regional, national and international scale to spread the word regarding the many important things occurring at FAU.”

Izquierdo joined FAU in 2003 as the director of media relations and later became the executive director of communications.  In her previous position, she led the university’s first branding effort that included oversight of FAU’s new logo development, and the launch, implementation and adherence to FAU’s new visual identity.  Izquierdo oversaw the creation of the Office of Communications, an integrated communications division previously missing from the University’s structure.  Previous to joining FAU, Izquierdo worked in the media relations department at Florida International University.

“The development of an innovative communications and marketing division at FAU is an exciting opportunity to embrace,” said Izquierdo.  “We are fortunate at FAU to have a multitude of talented faculty, students and staff, who will allow us to elevate the visibility of the University to the next level.”

A graduate of Florida International University, Izquierdo obtained a master’s degree in integrated communications and a bachelor’s degree in public relations.  She currently serves as president of EdNet, a regional forum of institutional communication professionals who focus on bringing the case for higher education before the news media, opinion leaders, legislators and the public, and is a member of PRSA.  Izquierdo was named Heavy Hitter in Public Relations by the South Florida Business Journal in 2006.
