BOCA RATON, FL (May 30, 2006) – A major gift to Florida Atlantic University Libraries will be announced at a press conference on Thursday, June 1 at 2 p.m. in the Board of Trustees Room, Administration Building, on FAU’s Boca Raton campus. Among those representing the University will be FAU President Frank T. Brogan ’81, University Provost John Pritchett, Executive Vice President of University Advancement and Executive Director of the FAU Foundation Inc. Lawrence Davenport and Director of Libraries William Miller.
This gift, an outstanding collection of books, original documents and papers, is valued at an estimated $3.8 million and will help establish FAU Libraries, nationally, as an important center for the study of American history. The collection was the largest of its kind in private hands. It is ranked by David Szewczyk, of the Philadelphia Rare Books and Manuscripts Company, as one of the top 10 such collections in the United States.
