FAU Libraries’ “Spirit of America” concert, a celebration of American Independence, will feature the 20-piece Klezmer Company Orchestra and a guest vocalist. They will perform classical, folk, Broadway music, and American marches, including works by Copland, Ives, Foster, Joplin, Cohan and Sousa.
“Before American composers produced a great body of work for our country, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson were listening to and playing the works of Mozart – the most popular composer of the time,” said Aaron Kula, conductor, Klezmer Company Orchestra. “Mozart’s famous “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” will open the concert.”
The program will include “Appalachian Spring,” “Turkey in the Straw,” “Liberty Bell Hoe Down,” “ My Old Kentucky Home,” “Ring, Ring De Banjo,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” “I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy,” and the rousing “Stars and Stripes.”
Additional support for the “Spirit of America” concert is provided by FAU’s Lifelong Learning Society.
Tickets are $15 and $12. For reservations, call 1-800-564-9539 or visit www.fauevents.com.
