BOCA RATON, FL (May 8, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University’s Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) race team will showcase the formula race car they built to enter into the 2006 Formula SAE race. The car will be on display on Tuesday, May 9, beginning at 2 p.m., on the west side of the Administration building on FAU’s Boca Raton campus.
The Formula SAE race competition is for SAE student members to conceive, design, fabricate and compete with small formula-style race cars. The restrictions on the car frame and engine are limited so that the knowledge, creativity and imagination of the students are challenged. The cars are built over a period of about one year and are taken to the annual competition for judging and comparison with approximately 120 other vehicles from colleges and universities throughout the world.
Jason Bivens, FAU FSAE team captain and student, will drive the car to the area to be showcased. Dr. Oren Masory, professor and chair of mechanical engineering, and student team members – Pablo Gondim, Sergio Bastiani, Fritz Van-Zwol, Ken Patek, Andres Girardot, Heather Kelle, Matthew Feldman, Grant Browning, Tyler Moore, Prasad Karkhanis, Bryce Sahlberg, Jared Williamson and Kyle Millay - will be available to answer questions.
The 2006 FSAE race will be held at the Ford Proving Grounds in Romeo, Michigan, from Wednesday, May 17 through Sunday May 21, 2006. For more information about the race, contact Dr. Oren Masory at 561-297-3424 or Jason Bivens at 561-758-1029.
