FAU’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters Recognizes Top Students and Faculty

BOCA RATON, FL (May 4, 2006)Florida Atlantic University’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters recognized outstanding students, faculty and staff at the College’s Eighth Annual Awards Celebration held on Friday, April 21 on the FAU Boca Raton campus. The event was also an occasion to recognize donors who have given to the College’s many departments and programs. 

Over 200 students received scholarships and honors for excellence in a variety of fields.   Prizes were awarded for excellence in art, music and theatre and for accomplishment in anthropology, classical studies, history, Holocaust and Judaic studies, women’s studies and other areas.  Students received scholarships and fellowships for further study at FAU and abroad, and were recognized for outstanding work. 

Among the donors recognized at the event were Frances Edelman for her support of several awards throughout the College; Ann Adams for her support of the anthropology department; Madelyn Savarick for her donations towards music scholarships; Sylvia Rosen for her support of the ceramics program in the department of visual arts and art history; Claire Dorst and the Delray Beach Art League for their support of visual arts and art history; and Il Circolo and the late Lena Camiccia-Armautou for their support of Italian studies. 

Among the faculty recognized at the ceremony were Robert Watson, who received the FAU Distinguished Teacher of the Year award; Andy Furman, who received the FAU Researcher of the Year award; Patricia Kollander, who received a University award for Excellence in Teaching; and Stacie Rossow, who received a University award for Excellence in Advising.  Other nominees for awards included James Cunningham, Jan Hokenson, Kenneth Osgood and Susan French.
